Great news for families heading to Waiheke these school holidays: the kids travel free. From Saturday 26 September to Sunday 11 October 2026, tamariki aged up to 15 ride with Island Direct for nothing — all you need is one paid adult fare, and the whole crew is sorted.
Online only — and this one's worth reading properly
This offer is online only. It's not available at the terminal, and it can't be sorted by turning up on the day — so book ahead before you head to the ferry. One more thing to watch for: adding your child's name in the booking comments doesn't count as booking them. They need to be added as an actual passenger on the booking for the free fare to apply.
How to book

- Add each child as a passenger on the booking (not just in the comments) — their fare will drop to zero automatically.
- One paid adult fare is required per booking, and kids must travel with a paying adult on the same booking.
